  • AfterEffects to Longhorn: Repeat of History?

Talking with my co-worker Frankie about future plans I had heard about for AfterEffects and Longhorn. No, can’t remember where I heard it, but basically, plans for outputting either it or Premiere to Longhorn. Now, without getting into the nitty gritty details, basically envision your animation/composition (parts of it) are rendered in realtime via Longhorn. Since the animations are built into the OS for hardware + software accerleration, you have a new platform for distribution.

That, however, is not the point of this post. I think a few of us can remember an animation program that slowly obtained scripting and over time morphed into a totally different product. Flash. If I were Adobe’s CEO, the interjection and further development of the javascript ‘esque abilities in AfterEffects would be awesome if some of your “comps” (think Flash Graphic symbols) were scriptable with C#/VB when you exported to Longhorn. That’d be fuggin’ tight.

  • iTunes Flash Playlist

Got the idea to put my iTunes playlist on my site from Flex-mx. He posted about this .NET app, IndieRock, that will upload a text file of your current, last n songs, n defaulting to 10, to your webserver. I then load and parse that text file into some Flash files. The datagrid in version A is hard to get smaller than 220 at 10 Verdana, and the bloody mx.core.View doesn’t listen to the global styles, nor can you set them on himself in version B; but either way, I think it’s neato! Pretty schweet what one can do in under an hour with Flash.

  • Yahoo Toolbar with Shockwave

Went to Yugop yesterday and had to install Shockwave on this machine because it’s new. However, after going through the don’t-remember-my-page-and-close-my-browser-you-coohh#$#$ installer, I noticed part of the installation process had the option of installing Yahoo toolbar. Maybe I’ve been out of the Director community and missed this detail, but why the integration? What’s the point of offering it? Can you write extensions via Shockwave? It was really confusing as to why that was added to the installation process, and although I am on a G12 (or whatever’s faster than a T3), I was still a little irritated that something I didn’t ask for was potentially downloaded with Shockwave. Just thought it was weird.
