  • Flex for Flash Developers – Tonight at the Atlanta Macromedia Users Group

As mentioned by JD and Michael, Flash Lite and Flex are on the agenda this evening. I’m packing my computer right after I post this to head to the office in Atlanta. After I annihilate some coding issues and fawn over a database schema, I’ll be heading to Georgia Tech’s Student Center to hear Michael on Flash Lite, and then show Flash Developers what’s up with this Flex thang. Hope to see you there!

  • Flex Chronicles #7: ViewStack Tip for Flasherz

If your a Flash Developer, when using the ViewStack, ensure it’s creationPolicy is equal to “all”. A ViewStack is a lot like in an Accordion Pane with 1 key difference; by default, the ViewStack does NOT load all of it’s children components. Like a ViewStack, the Accordion does keep all of the other children around, but the ViewStack only instantiates the components the first time they are chosen.

My advice, if your using the ViewStack for what it was made for; delivery of multiple step forms/views (much like a Wizard), make its creationPolicy=”all” so it’ll create all of it’s children as soon as its created, you can register for events for everyone, and treat it like a self-contained component that you’re used too. It’s worth the processor hit. Besides, you can always set it to “auto” or “queued” later if your looking to refactor and optimize your code; by then, you’ll be adding more code to accept the event later vs. adding a lot in the beginning just for the sake of delaying the instantiation of a few components.

  • Impromptu A

We had to come into class this evening, read an old newspaper (some had 1960, I had a New York October 24th, 1929) find an article, and give an impromptu speech about it with 30 minutes to read and prepare.

People say you learn most from your failures. However, I feel victories are not espoused enough; what are we really trying to do? Enjoy the journey? Sure, but do we ignore the milestones? Heck no!

I got an A, biotch! People I thought did way better than me got B’s, so uh… bling, bling!!!

  • Contractor Roll Call

Ladies and gentleman, I’ve done this before, but I need to again. I am getting a considerable amount of contract offers that I cannot fulfill because I have too much other work going on.

If you do contract work, (design, programming, etc.), please email me your contact information, and skillset.

If I already have your information, please do so again.

The jobs in question deal with primarily Flash design, illustration, and programming, although I had one surprising .NET web service coding potential contract. I cannot answer any inquiries about jobs, I’m merely adding to my contact list, and if a job comes up, I’ll let you know then.
