Hmm.. I think it'd be cool if it gave you the option to not install the authoring components, but still install the reference panel stuff maybe? At least the stuff that isn't related to the components, like the netStream ref and code hints, etc.

Well blow me down...

If you don't have an inetpub, then... where does the flashcom directory get installed? I mean, honestly, I didn't do a search, but maybe I should have? I just assumed if you didn't have a webserver installed, you couldn't have application directories. Time to refer to Kevin Towes' book, eh?

Typical user error, I guess. Still, how does it work without app directories (or were they there and I just didn't look for them)?

FlashCom is not related to a web server, it doesn't need one (you can serve your SWFs off of another machine, and most production environments do), so why should it throw an error if you don't have IIS installed?

Plus, if you choose not to install the authoring component, it seems only natural that the installer won't install them.

I mean, I'm all for constructive criticism and I believe that the installer could be improved, but I guess I don't see your points in this post.

I believe the default installation for the flashcom/application folder (the one that contains your app folders), if no web server is found during installation, is C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Flash Communication MX\flashcom\applications\, and if I remember correctly it says so in one of the installer screens.

I guess you're like me and breeze through installers without reading too much..."next! next! next! install it already!" ;)
